SIMULTANEOUS FORUM: Innovation to meet members’ needs
"I am participating in the International Summit of Cooperatives because…"
“…The co--operative enterprise model represents an engaging and effective way to foster renewable energy development at the local level in Canada. While good progress has been made with renewable energy co-op development, we still have challenges to overcome and I hope to share experiences and gain insights from other co-operators across Canada and internationally that will inform my own work and progress the sector collectively."
Biography
Judith Lipp is the Executive Director of the TREC Renewable Energy Co-operative and its recently launched sister charitable foundation, TREC Education. With TREC as an incubator, developer and administrator of community-owned renewable energy projects, Judith is in a unique position where she not only carries out the executive director tasks of TREC and TREC Education, but also coordinates 3 TREC ventures that are set up as separate energy co-ops but which still have strong ties to TREC. These include SolarShare, LakeWind and WindShare.
Judith has more than 12 years of research, consulting and management experience in sustainable energy issues, spanning 4 continents. She completed her PhD at Dalhousie University in 2008, where she examined the role of public policy in promoting renewable electricity, drawing lessons from other jurisdictions for the Canadian context. She has served as a consultant on both energy demand and supply-side issues, producing more than 20 publications and presenting her work orally to both academic and professional audiences on many occasions.
She is a proud investor in the SolarShare co-op and time-shares an off-grid strawbale cottage in her home province of Nova Scotia.
