Biography

Andrew MacGillivray is a native of New Brunswick (on Canada's East coast); spent most of his career in the Toronto, Ontario area and now holds the distinction of being a weekly commuter between these two provinces.

Andy boasts a diverse career in the food and packaged goods industry, with extensive background in general management and leadership roles. He graduated from St. Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia and York University in Toronto, from where he immediately began his career in the marketing and sales field. He has held various leadership positions in the last 20 years, including Vice-President Nestle Canada, President and C.E.O. of Baxter Foods Limited in Saint John and President and CEO of Gay Lea Foods Co-operative Limited – a position he has held since 2002.

Andy has been actively involved in industry leadership roles, including as Chair for the Dairy Processors Association, the Canadian Coffee Association and the Canadian Pet Food Association. He is a current member of the Board of Governors of the Food and Consumer Products Association of Canada and the Dairy Processors Association.

When he's not commuting Andy spends his time kayaking, hiking, walking and biking – anything that doesn't cramp one's legs like the narrow seats of an airplane.

About Gay Lea Foods

Gay Lea Foods Co-operative Limited is an Ontario co-operative owned by approximately 1200 Ontario dairy farmers. Established in 1958, it is one of the largest dairy co-operatives in Canada, operating from six processing facilities and offering a wide range of dairy products; from milk and cream to cheese, butter, cultured products and dairy ingredients.

Many of our brands have established leading market shares, including Nordica Cottage Cheese, Gay Lea Sour Cream, Gay Lea Real Whipped Cream topping and, of course, Gay Lea Butter.

More importantly, the people of Gay Lea have established a reputation of leadership through principles and values.

In the past two years Gay Lea has been recognized as one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers – a recognition that underscores the importance of people and values.

For many years running, the people and members of Gay Lea have supported the Co-operative Development Foundation to assist co-operatives in other regions and parts of the world. More recently, Gay Lea established the Gay Lea Charitable Foundation to ensure that, while we continue to thrive, we share our success with others.

As we celebrate 2012, the International Year of Cooperatives, we also recognize that we are best when we work together – our partners and customers in the business, our loyal employees and our engaged membership – we truly believe that as Gay Lea Co-operative, we will be “better together.”
